The Impact of Your Gift

A message from a parent
in Ukraine

October 20, 2022

Dear Friend of Family Leadership Center,

My name is Natalia Grinko. I’m an Adlerian therapist from Ukraine. I would like to tell you my story of how I met the incredible Family Leadership Center and how it affected me and my work.

I found [out] about Family Leadership Center and its free classes. I have subscribed to their news and then started the course “Foundations of Family Leadership Winter 2022”. The classes began in January and ended in March. We met once a week on Thursday and worked on different topics. I was amazed at how the course was well structured and, of course, liked our group interaction…

On February 24th, war came to my country. It was panic here and sirens very often. So I sat in the shelter for hours. That was the moment when I realized that FLC team is a community. I received so many letters of support from them. They even checked the news about my region (Chernivtsi, west of Ukraine, near the border with Romania). When I write this I am so overwhelmed and want to cry. They sent me pictures from their countries of how people support and stand with Ukraine. All of a sudden the world becomes so small, warm, and a safe place for me. I feel more connected than ever. Isn’t it social embeddedness?

I attended every class, never missed one, even with a poor connection from the shelter. They gave me space to reflect, shared my sorrows, and gave me support which I need so badly. I talked about the situation in my country and my coursemates talked about how they support Ukrainians all over the world. It was so meaningful to me. In the middle of the War and horror in my country, I have these days of safe and peaceful life, a place I belonged, and people who empowered me. Not sure if there will be enough words to show you my appreciation. But what I do know is that I want to translate your course and materials into Ukrainian and am going to take any opportunity to be a participant in your courses.

Adler once said: “Lasting happiness comes from doing for others” and I couldn’t agree more!

Dear FLC team, thank you for doing and being there for me.
